  • MINDFUL

Kenya holds a special allure, unique all on its own. Travel with a small group to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of the ‘Mara’, where the savannah comes alive. Know that the people you meet on this trip are dedicating their work to preserving the natural environment and uplifting local communities. Sure, you could find a tour offering more highlights to check off your bucket list, but authentic experiences are in the details and we are here to immerse ourselves in every last one with slow, mindful intention.

  • MEANINGFUL

Use your travel dollars in Kenya towards empowering women-led initiatives across the tourism sector. Stay at boutique lodges managed or owned by visionary women, savour meals crafted by talented female chefs, and engage with conservationists and wildlife guides breaking barriers in their respective fields. Additionally, your journey contributes to supporting Usikimye, a grassroots organization working to end the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence in Kenya.

  • MEMORABLE

Spot prey and predators alike on carbon-neutral game drives and bush tours. Sip sundowners at sunset while gazing wistfully across the expanse of the Maasai Mara, and then witness its majesty from the air in a hot air balloon at sunrise. Absorb culinary secrets from our fave female chef in an exclusive cooking class and learn about wildlife, biodiversity and conservation efforts from the preeminent female guides in the country. ITINERARY

DAY ONE: Welcome to Kenya! We can’t wait for you to experience this magical place. You will be met by your driver at Jomo Kenyatta Airport who will transport you to Macushla House, a charming family-run boutique hotel in the suburb of Karen. After a tour of the hotel and a bite to eat, it’s time to get some shut-eye. Tomorrow is a big day!

DAY TWO: After a delicious breakfast, we’ll head out on our first adventure to Nairobi National Park where we will take in a unique safari experience right in the heart of Africa’s largest city. Your first foray into Kenyan wildlife, Nairobi National Park will offer you the opportunity to witness the country’s largest black rhino population and allow you the chance to settle into your new surroundings with a crew of wonderful women by your side. We absolutely cannot leave Nairobi without a visit to Africa’s oldest wildlife charity and leading conservation organization, the Sheldrick Wildlife Truth (SWT). Focused on conservation, preservation and the protection of wildlife, it’s here that we will visit their elephant orphanage, offering a glimpse into their day-to-day operations in supporting baby elephants (cue the cuteness!). Once done with our busy morning of activities, we will then head out for our tour of Kazuri Beads,  a workshop employing over 340 women skilled in the crafting of ceramic beads, strung into beautiful and artistic jewellery. Be sure to grab a necklace or earrings - it’s on us as a thank-you for joining this experience and supporting women in Kenya.

Finally, after our whirlwind day of exploring Nairobi, we’ll settle in for dinner back at Macushla House, including a conversation with award-winning human rights advocate and 2021 Human Rights Defender of the Year, Njeri Migwi. Njeri is the co-founder of Usikimye, the grassroots organisation dedicated to fighting sexual and gender-based violence that we will be supporting on our trip.

DAYS THREE: After a restful morning, it’s off by bush plane to the Emboo River Camp in the Maasai Mara National Reserve where our Maasai guide, ‘Mara Queen’ Naserian, and her guiding colleague Brenda will pick us up at the airstrip in Emboo’s Electric Safari Vehicles and take us back to camp. Once settled, we’ll take an Eco Tour of the grounds and learn about how Emboo’s team is disrupting the safari industry with an entirely carbon-neutral experience.

DAYS FOUR-SIX: Our first full day in the Mara will be an early one! But it’s not all bad – we’ll be taking in the spectacular sites of the savannah from our very own hot air balloon, piloted by the remarkable Captain Joyce Beckwith (aka Captain Smiles). If ever there was an Instagrammable moment – it’s this one! The next few days will allow you to choose your own adventure: Emboo offers a variety of activities and excursions for you to choose from - all part of your trip - including game drives, a guided tour to the local village, or lounging by the natural swimming pool overlooking a part of the Talek River. Don’t forget to book your complimentary treatment at the spa with Lavendar, and no judgment here if you decide to spend a little longer on the massage table. Make the most of your trip, your way! We’ll meet back up for meals and sunset cocktails to share stories on the highlights of the day. On our last day, we’ll hop on our next bush plane to the East Coast of Kenya and beautiful Lamu!

DAYS SEVEN-NINE: Rise and shine at boutique Banana House, where co-owners Monika and Mohamed have built a beautiful guest house nestled in the quiet area of Shela, close to Lamu’s scenic waterfront. It’s here that we will get the chance to experience the beauty and cultural diversity of Kenya while providing a purposeful and calming conclusion to your savannah adventures at Emboo. Sunset dinners sailing on a dhow in the Indian Ocean, a visit to East Africa’s oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement, immersive cooking class, and a henna experience and optional yoga session will round out your three days on the coast, making it the perfect way to build in some downtime for you to explore and relax after your safari experience. On our last afternoon, it won’t be easy to say goodbye to the team at Banana House or the beautiful Indian Ocean, but we’ll have plenty of memories to bring with us. We will catch a flight and head back to Macushla House and the big city of Nairobi, where we’ll head to the Opportunity Factory in Nairobi, a unique arts studio focused on craft, creativity and culture. The female entrepreneurs here will give us a tour of the studio, and share their work. It’s here that you will be able to lean into your creative side! After a busy day of travel, we’ll enjoy our final dinner together at the remarkable Cultiva restaurant in Karen before getting our packing on.

DAY TEN: Our last day in Kenya will have one last treat - our group will head to Nairobi’s famous Giraffe Centre for a final up-close and personal encounter with the majestic animal that so many call their favourite on the savannah.

After one too many licks and selfies with Nandi, Mpingo, Edd, Salma II and Lily (IFYKYK), we’ll head back to Macushla House to re-pack your belongings, freshen up, give you a goodbye hug and deliver you to the JKIA airport to catch your flight home. Safe travels!

*** The safety and health of our travellers is paramount; in addition to the mandatory medical and travel insurance you are required to purchase, AMREF Flying Doctors and emergency evacuation is available and included in your trip costs.

Where we stay!

Women’s Organization

This trip supports: Usikimye.

Usikimye means “do not be silent” in Swahili. This important organization is working toward ending the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence in Kenya.

Co-founded by human rights advocates Njeri Migwi and Stella Khachina, Usikimye has helped thousands of women and girls escape domestic violence and heal from trauma. Central to this work is Usikimye’s operation of a gender-based violence helpline, two safehouses serving women and their children, and supportive programming designed to economically empower and reintegrate survivors back into society.

Sororal will make a financial contribution to Usikimye, on behalf of our travellers and our company, which will go toward funding the cost of running Usikimye’s safehouses in 2025.
